Karim Abdul-Mumin, the Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned some allegations leveled against Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu.
In Tamale, a group calling itself the Coalition of NDC Youth Groups accused the Minority Leader of escalating tensions within the party at the regional level.
They also claimed it was part of the Tamale South legislator’s efforts to “dwindle the fortunes of the NDC party in the region.”
This follows an attack on the NDC Regional Secretariat by some enraged party supporters last Tuesday, August 23, to express their displeasure with the selection of Mr. Ali Adolf as the NDC Acting Regional Chairman.
Following the incident, the Ghana Police arrested seven people, the party’s Deputy Northern Regional Communications Officer, Hardi Pagazaa, for their alleged involvement.
The coalition accused the party’s Northern Regional Secretary, Mohammed Abdul Salam, of “indiscriminate arrest” of the party’s youth on Friday, August 25, because Hardi Pagazaa had no involvement in the attack on the party office.
Responding to the allegations in a press release signed by the Northern Regional Youth Organizer on Monday, August 29, 2022, Karim Mumin described them as baseless, adding that their actions have the potential to sow bad seeds within the party in the region.
According to him, the minority leader, who also serves as Tamale South legislator, has been supportive of the party’s activities in the region, with the youth reaping the most benefits.
“The attention of the National Democratic Congress’s northern regional youth secretariat has been drawn to a press statement by an unknown youth group in Tamale on Sagani TV, accusing the minority leader of fueling the region’s troubles.”
“As the office in charge of overseeing all youth activities in the region, I want to state unequivocally that the allegations leveled against minority leader Haruna Iddrisu are regrettable, uninformed, ignorant, and condemnable.”
“On the contrary, the minority leader has been very instrumental in working closely with the party to resolve all of the teething problems the party is experiencing in the region.” As party youth, the youth secretariat expects you to rally solidly behind the party to unite its ranks and file rather than making these unfounded and baseless allegations, which have the potential to sow bad seeds within the party in the region.
“The minority leader has been the backbone in supporting party activities not only within the tamale metropolis, but throughout the entire region,” he added.
