The National Cathedral has been a subject of public discussion for several months. President Nana Addo has can be remembered for indicating that the Cathedral is a “personal promise made to God”.
Many Ghanaians Captain(Rtd) Sowu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Onua TV’s Captain Smart have vehemently opposed any action directing state funds into the National Cathedral project.
There are reports that government has paid huge amounts into the project without the approval of parliament. There are also claims that the National Cathedral project ignored the procurement procedures.
On Tuesday, 30th August 2022, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral finally announced the suspension of the project due to a lack of fund.
Onua TV’s journalist, Captain Smart has asked “whether the GHS300million contributed has not been used” for the intended purpose ?
Interestingly, TV3 Ghana posted a picture of Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on its heavily followed social media platform. The caption on the post bothered on a request made by the North Tongu MP. The MP has called for a full accountability of all funds contributed.
The MP has also been quoted for insisting that, despite suspension of the project, he has evidence of “illegal” withdrawals.
Why would the MP think that there were illegal withdrawals? What makes the withdrawals illegal? Many Ghanaians have reacted to the comments made by Samuel Okudzeto as some concerned citizens have applauded him for his efforts.
Other citizens have directed MP Sam Okudzeto to go to court if he believes there is any illegality.
Has Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa been appointed an “Attorney General” in charge of National Cathedral issues to take the issue to the court? Should the honourable MP be hailed for his efforts?
What are your thoughts on the ongoing discussion?
