Over the weekend, the president made some comments that got many talking. Whether by jest or whether serious, many cannot tell. However, there was so much commentary when President Akufo-Addo mentioned that Ghanaians are lucky to have him as their president. Well, this got many talking because of the economic conditions in the country.
Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central was asked if he was lucky to have Akufo-Addo as president and the MP gave a rather interesting answer. According to Murtala Mohammed while on GHToday, noted that Ghanaians should be thankful to the President for 4 main reasons.
Murtala Mohammed explained that Akufo-Addo as president has messed up the economy despite all the resources that his government received. He mentioned that the state of the economy is clear for all to see and applaud the President for such feat. Secondly Murtala added that the cedi has seen its worse performance against the dollar in many years. He questioned whether Akufo-Addo was the man who promised to do better and lift the cedi.
Thirdly Murtala spoke about inflation as the worse in the country in the Fourth Republic and called for Ghanaians to clap for Akufo-Addo for turning the country into Sri Lanka. Lastly Murtala noted that Akufo-Addo has turned the country into a family and friendship and this deserves praises from Ghanaians as it shows how the President loves the country.
Interestingly, Murtala called on Akufo-Addo to thank God that the people of Ghana have been patient enough unlike their counterparts in Sri Lanka who revolted a president who has performed better than Akufo-Addo. Murtala was of the view that Ghanaians had to be grateful to the President because he has been the best the country will see when it comes to worse performance.
Murtala was sarcastic in his response, but can he be blamed? Was the President right to make that comment looking at the living conditions of the country? Was the president being truthful or sarcastic or joking. Well no matter what he sought to do, Murtala Mohammed felt that Ghanaians have a reason to be lucky to have Akufo-Addo as leader for 4 infamous reasons. Are you lucky to have Akufo-Addo as leader?
