Former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Bernard Anbataayela Mornah Has revealed why Prof Stephen Addei, Borad Chairman of Ghana Revenue Authority was fired from his position.
In an Interview with Morris Banaanwine of Radio Waa during Yelkabaahi Program, he detailed that Prof. Addai had wanted to issue tax waiver to some Ghanaian companies but his proposal was opposed by the Government, the government rather advocated for Guinness Ghana Breweries from Ireland to be Offered tax holidays.
“The reason they removed him was that the general Secretary Walked to his office and sat down with Guinness Ghana, they came there and they were looking for tax rebate and it was the general Secretary of the ruling party that led them, so Mr. Addai told them that if we can grant tax rebate to multi nationals that are not Ghanaians why do we have to tax Ghanaians, when he said that and sack them from the office, he did not stay in the office for the next two weeks, he was removed, these are the words of Prof. Stephen Addai who at that point was Resisting that no!, We cannot give Samba, Guinness Ghana, who have come from somewhere, Ireland, tax waivers yet taxing Ghanaians, he resisted that development, he didn’t last in the office for more than two weeks after the issue occured, he wanted to streamline things but was removed but he cared less, why did Akufo-Addo remove somebody, who was battling to ensure that multi nationals pay their tax worth but decided to impose unreasonable taxes on poor Ghanaians Including you and i why?”
Mornah Concluded that President Akufo-Addo is shielding Foreigners form Paying Taxes.
