The Electricity of Ghana (ECG) has served a notice to the general public about the activity of one hotel in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.
In a press statement released by ECG on Monday, they made it clear that one hostel by name ‘Best Crystal Hotel’ has been busted for stealing power worth to the tune of GH¢400,000 for the past three years. According to ECG, the hotel was caught in this act when the ECG’s field staff visited the facility to audit meter installations on 26th August, 2022. This is part of their efforts to clamp down power theft in the country.
For this reason, ECG has disconnected the hotel from the national grid and has reported the matter to the police and other officials. They have also been served a notice to be surcharged and sanctioned.
ECG is therefore urging the general public to desist from stealing power or using power or electricity without paying for it. This is because they will soon be caught and sanctioned.
The issue of power theft in Ghana has been a major worry to the Electricity Company and the government of Ghana. Some Ghanaians do illegal connections with the hope of avoiding the payment or paying less of Electricity bills. Electricity Company of Ghana has seen this act and have served a notice that they will soon storm all homes and audit all meters in Ghana. All persons involved in this illegality will be brought to light and sanctioned.
Government needs a lot of funds to give constant supply of electricity to all citizens. Yet some citizens do not want this to be possible for the government. Refusing to pay a debt in Ghana is a crime. It is time to say ‘Bye bye’ to Dumsor in Ghana and it will take me and you.
