Oyerepa FM Was Shut Down For Their Own Safety- Lawyer Maurice Ampaw

Some days ago, Kumasi Traditional Council ordered the management of Oyerepa FM in Kumasi, to stop operating the radio station. This was a way to show that they are remorseful for allowing Akwasi Addai Odike, the founder of the United Progressive Party (UFP) to make an “ill” comments against Asanteman and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on its platform.

When the news about the shut down surfaced on the internet, a lot of Ghanaians reacted to it. Many people were not happy how a radio station could be shut down just because of a “truthful” comment from a panelist.

Today, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has also reacted to the closure of Oyerepa FM. Lawyer Maurice Ampaw on his show “Mmra ne Abrabo mu nsem” stated that the shut down of Oyerepa FM was for their own safety.

He explained that Asantehene has full authority over Ashanti Region and he can do anything he thinks will be helpful to the region. He stated that if Oyerepa were allowed to operate after the comment of Odike, the radio station could have been attacked by some people and even set on fire. He revealed that the reasons for the closure was just to make the issue die down before they are allowed to go back to their duties.
