It is on record that the National Democratic Congress, have always cried foul, whenever they are in opposition, about rulings from Supreme Court Justices. Justices who have been victims of these accusations include Justice Acquah, Justice Wiredu, Justice Wood, and Justice Akuffo. Thus, the recent statement made by Former President John Dramani Mahama about the broken image of the judiciary under the leadership of Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah came as no news to Ghanaians.
Krobea Kwabena Asante has expressed hope that should a new Supreme Court Chief Justice be appointed, Mahama will not continue his usual ranting about the judiciary giving biased judgment against the National Democratic Congress.
“I am elated that Mahama said it will take a new CJ, God willing in May 2023, CJ Anin Yeboah will retire and a new CJ will be appointed. I hope Mahama will not harp on the same string when the new CJ starts work and any frivolous political case from NDC brought before the bench is swept away.
“The attack on CJs didn’t start under Anin Yeboah, it has become a ratatat whenever the NDC is in opposition. It was done to Acquah, Wiredu, Wood, and even Akuffo.”, he explained.
A legal expert, Gary Nimako, attributed Mahama’s recent call to his refusal to understand why the Supreme Court unanimously dismissed their 2020 election petition. However one can view this from a different viewpoint. Mahama, who was once a former President, knows what the Judiciary entails and what the National security issues entail. Thus, for him to make such a comment, should mean that we as a country must take it seriously. Mahama explained that Nana Addo has blinded his eyes to the observation made by the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah, about the recent unanimous rulings. Thus, it is obvious that even the President is nonchalant about the issue at hand.
