Aside from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and Dr. Bawumia, the next most pressurized group is the minority leader in Parliament. After being blamed by the government for stalling government business, their own party members also lambast and blame for siding with the government to launch ruthless hardship on the people. The predictions and expectations of all Ghanaians were that the minority caucus, led by Haruna Iddrisu, will give the government a rather tough time. However, even with their numbers in this eighth Parliament, the government has succeeded in passing a tall list of taxes and levies. That aside, the government has managed to add to the existing debt stock based on the approval from Parliament which includes the Minority Caucus.
Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah refused to agree with the assertion that the Minority leadership has taken bribes from the government to ease and reduce the hindrance on government business. One thing he argued was most accurate is how this minority leadership has allowed the government to raise our debt stock by GHc 540 billion. According to him, it was very impossible to understand. Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah further blamed the communication team of the National Democratic Congress for being part and parcel of the menace Ghanaians are facing. KKD once declared that Mahama lost the 2016 elections because of the failure of the NDC communicators to do their jobs. This has gotten Ghanaians to massively react. Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah further gave a scenario that we should picture what will happen if it was President John Dramani Mahama who added that huge amount to the debt stock.
“Current Minority leadership and Communication bureau of NDC is as useless as K in the word Knife. How can Akufo Addo raise our public debt to GHc 540 billion yet, the citizens are not aware of it? Imagine Mahama raising our Debt from GHc 122 billion to 540 billion.”, he explained.
