With two years to the 2024 elections, the euphoria has started and various opinions have been shared towards the election.
As the ruling New Patriotic Party is working vigorously to retain power, the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, is also doing all it could to snatch power.
The current president and leader of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will bring his eight year term of service to an end after the 2024 election and he is not qualified to re run because he has exhausted his mandate per our constitution.
But who take the mantle from President Akufo-Addo?
The vice president Dr Bawumia has shown interest, trade minister Hon Alan Kyeremanten, Dr Afriyie Akoto, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Hon. Joe Ghartey, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Mr Boakye Agyarko (former Energy minister), Mr Francis Adai Nimo, Kwabena Agyapong, have all shown interest in becoming the flagbearer of the NPP.
However, the likes of Nana Akomea, C.E.O. of State Transport, former MP and Communication Director of the NPP and Hon. Samuel Attack Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South and former Works and Housing Minister, have waded into the selection of their flagbearers.
The duo have proposed that Dr Bawumia and Hon. Alan Kyeremanten must come to a consensus, one a flagbearer and the other a running mate to help them break the 8. Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea was emphatic that Dr Bawumia be made flagbearer and Hon. Alan Kyerematen his running mate and 2024 would be easy for them.
Meanwhile, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Hon Joe Ghartey think otherwise. For Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, any member of the current economic management team is not capable of breaking the 8 for sending the country back to IMF.
Moreover, the NDC is also lacing its boot to elect executives and the eventual flagbearer. As it stands now, most of the NDC have rooted for former president John Dramani Mahama to lead the NDC in the 2024 election even as the former finance minister, Hon. Kwabena Duffour is preparing to unseat him.
What do you think? Will their combination be a threat to the NDC?
