With The Greatest Respect You Got It All Wrong In This Ban Decision – Sam George ‘Roars’ Again

There have been 2 universities experiencing some amount of student violence over the last one month. First it was the University of Ghana and then later the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where some students of Katanga and Unity Halls clashed. These two incidents led to injuries and destruction of properties.

While the Police continue in their investigations, The Office of the Registrar of KNUST have released their judgement on the impasse on their campus few days ago. According to the Council, all forms of student leadership in the halls have been banned effective the 2023/2024 academic year. Again all SRC Hall week celebrations have been suspended indefinitely while any students who engage in morale or processing will be dismissed.

Aside these there are a number of other harsh measures in place. Sam George, the MP for Ningo Prampram has reacted to this verdict from the university. According to him the verdict is too harsh and wrong. Sam George’s main concern was the rationale behind abolishing all forms of student leadership in the halls. He referred to this as retrogressive. He agreed that the law must be applied to recalcitrant students but maintained that the harsh judgment shows that the university clearly lacked management abilities to deal with such acts on their campuses.
