Having flat feet means that your feet don’t have a normal arch when you are standing. If you have flat feet, carrying out physical activities for a long time can cause pain. This medical condition is called pes planus, or fallen arches. There are three types of flat feet and they are:
1. Flexible flat foot
This type is very common and it occurs when the arches in your feet appear only when you raise them off the ground, and your soles touch the ground properly when you drop your feet on the ground.
2. Tight Achilles tendon
It is important to know that your Achilles tendon joins your heel bone to your calf muscle. If it is very tight, you might have pains when walking and running. This can make your heel lift very early when you are walking or running.
3. Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction
This type can be gotten when you are an adult, and it happens when the tendon that joins your calf muscle to the inside of your ankle, becomes injured or swollen. If your arch doesn’t get the required support, you may have pains inside your foot and ankle.
What can cause flat feet?
tendon tightening doesn’t occur fully to form an arch in a baby’s foot, it may result in a flat foot. It is important to know that as you age or get an injury, the tendons found in your feet may get damaged.
You may develop flat feet if the condition runs in your family. If you are an athlete or you engage in physical activities, you may be at risk of developing flat feet as a result of injury. People with diseases like diabetes mellitus, obesity, and cerebral palsy may also develop flat feet.
If you have flat feet and you don’t experience pain, then you shouldn’t be scared. If you experience pains in your feet after walking or standing for a long time, then it may be caused by your flat feet.
