Late Mionlana’s Regent Outdoored Wearing Centuries Old Fortified Regalia

As the customs and traditions of the Dagbang Kingdom demands, the regent of the late Mionlana who passed on a week ago has been installed. The regent Naa Alhassan Abdulai during his installation was seen adorning a heavily fortified regalia which is believed to be more than one hundred years old.

The regalia believed to posses enormous powers can repel spiritual and physical attacks thereby enhancing the safety and security of whoever wears it. The Regent’s great grandfather, Yaa Naa Abdulai Gmarigon who ruled the kingdom of the Dagbang between 1953 and 1968 was the first to be captured wearing the fortified smock which is decorated with talismans and verses of the holy Quran.

The regalia has since passed down to Yaa Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV [1969 -1974] who also passed it to his son, the late Mionlana who was heir apparent to the current Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II but died last week following a short illness.

Yesterday’s event at Mion Palace witnessed colourful display of Dagbang culture as thousands thronged to Mion to catch glimpse of the regent who eventually was unveiled amidst dancing and firing of musketeers.

The regent, Naa Alhassan Abdulai, will now act as the chief of Mion and will also supervised the performance of th traditional funeral rites of his late father at a later date.
