The dwindling economic fortunes is no longer a secret. The Akufo-Addo led government have had to run to the International Monetary Fund for financial relief. Many Ghanaians have bemoaned the high cost of living and how the cedi keeps depreciating against the dollar causing traders to convert more cedis into dollars to buy goods abroad. However, as the government waits for IMF help, news has it that the much anticipated $750 million dollars loan has hit the accounts of the government.
On Alhaji and Alhaji today, Saturday, August 27, 2022, Kwesi Pratt failed to appear on the popular show and in his place was his daughter, Ama Pratt, the General Manager at Pan African Television. According to Ama Pratt, it is so embarrassing to see how the government has performed. She explained that as the NPP talks about how to break the 8, Ghanaians need to tell them that it will be very difficult to do that.
“The truth is that this government is clueless. How can Akufo-Addo tell us to look up to God? Then he doesn’t deserve to become president. If we wanted someone like that we would have elected Tackie Yarboi or Duncan Williams because they are closer to God” Ama Pratt said.
Ama explained that by telling Ghanaians that he was looking up to God, the President was directly telling Ghanaians that he doesn’t deserve to be given the seat. She mentioned that there are more holier people who God will listen to than Akufo-Addo. Ama added that Ghanaians are tired with the excuses of the NPP and NDC charged the NPP to fix the country because they are in power. He called on Akufo-Addo to stop saying they will break the 8 or look up to God because no benefit will come out of it.
Interestingly, Akufo-Addo received so much applauds when he first said that he knows how to revive the economy but not lives. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case as the government is now calling on Ghanaians to look up to God. For a government that said it had the men and ready to lead, it is appalling to see how things have turned out. Despite this the government fails to blame itself and has rather blamed external shocks for the economic problems.
