I Will Say It Today; Johnnie Hughes Drops Revelation And Serves ‘Strong’ Notice To SSNIT About This

Host of TV3 New Day show, Johnnie Hughes has sent some messages to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust(SSNIT) for the recent statement made by the Chief Actuary of the institution. The Chief Actuary called for an increase in the statutory retirement age from 60 years to 65 years.

Speaking on Johnnie’s Bite show on TV3 this morning, Johnnie Hughes revealed that the plan by SSNIT to increase the retirement age is needless and not good for the country. He ‘fired’ them and urged them to do better investment with the contributions made by members. He added that SSNIT will get no better output when the retirement age is increased from 60 years to 65 years without any better investment policies.

According to him, SSNIT contribution is compulsory by Law. This means that workers at various SSNIT offices only have to do a better investment with the monies people pay to them. Calling for increment in the retirement age will only increase the unemployment rate in Ghana.

“I have several concerns about you people and I will say it today because it has been on my chest for a long time. You see how the insurance send their agents to come and beg people to sign on policies. You don’t go through that stress. Yours is deduction by law. So whether you work or you don’t work, you will be paid. When we give you the money, how do you invest it. Let’s do the assessment of monies that you have collected from us as SSNIT contribution and let us go and check all the investment you have put in. How have you run the places that have been given to you. You run them with our money.”

Did you not know that people were retiring too fast. Your young people cannot find jobs and when we are talking about it, you are busy calling for an extension in serving the nation. When will the young people wait till people go on pension at age 65” he said.

This comes after Mr. Joseph Poku, Chief Actuary at SSNIT called for an increment in the statutory retirement age from 60 years to 65 years. This will increase the benefits members receive and also help sustain the institution.
