Updates On Ghanaian Players In The Champions League Qualifiers: Bukari; Owusu -Denied Group Stage

A dream of every player to play in one of Europe’s most exciting competitions -the UEFA Champions League (UCL), here is a comprehensive report on how Ghanaian players have performed this week.

Made a quick recovery from an injury he sustained in the first leg, Osman Bukari started for Serbian giants FK Crvena zvezda as they were bottled to a draw on home soil against Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa which also featured international Ibrahim Mustapha who substituted him in the 84th minute.

Drew 2-2 in the return fixture, the Ghanaian duo’s chances of making it to the group stage were denied as they lost on 5-4 aggregates, their first UCL experience.

Sameish to Bukari and Mustapha- Kwabena Owusu and Gilbert Koomson- were also denied their progress in the competition.

Kwabena Owusu who plays trade with Azerbaijan giants Qarabag FK were kicked out by Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzen on a 2-1 score-line in their return fixture following a goalless draw at home- of which he climbed off the bench to witness 9 minutes of action.

Gilbert Koomson, on the other hand, played 16 minutes for Bodo/Glimt as they were thrashed by GNK Dinamo Zagreb at an extra time by 4-1 as visitors on 4-2 aggregates after succeeding at home in the first leg by 1-0 advantage.
