Former President John Dramani Mahama, was a president of the Republic of Ghana, from 24 July 2012, to 7 January 2017.
Before ascending the seat of government as a president, John Mahama served as Vice President of Ghana, from January 2009 to July 2012, and took office as president on 24 July, 2012 following the death of his predecessor the late John Evans Fiifi Attah Mills.
Whiles some section of the public graded his administration as the best; considering the numerous infrastructural developments and better living conditions that were enjoyed during his term of office, others; especially members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ranked his government as the most corrupt, incompetent and worst in Ghana’s history.
The Republic of Ghana, since independence from the British in 1957, has seen many governments with both good and bad performing leaders.
The Politics of Ghana takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic. In this system, the President of the Republic is both head of state and head of government.
In Ghana, the president is the Chief of the Executive Branch, Head of Foreign Policy, Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The president has many responsibilities; and all these duties are aimed at making good use of the nation’s resources and taxes, to provide peace and security for the citizens; ensure developments, provided good living conditions in the country, better health care, education, jobs and many more.
Vice-President of Ghana, is the second in command after the president. He is the Head/Chairman of the country’s Economic Management Team; a team of financial and economic experts, who’s aims are to work together; ensuring the the management of the national resources, finances, income, and expenditure of the country, to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for citizens.
The system also allows the vice president of the Republic, to sometimes assumes ceremonial duties of the president, such as attending diplomatic functions and events, that the actual president may be too busy to attend.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, after assuming office, put together a powerful 11-member economic management team, to help turn the economic fortunes of the Ghana around.
The members of this team; which is lead by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are Dr. Nana Yaw Osafo-Marfo, Dr. Mark Asibbey Yeboah, Prof. Gyan Baffour, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Ken Ofori Atta (Ghana’s Finance Minister), Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Kwaku Kwarteng, and Dr. Paul Acquah.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia; whiles introducing his Economic Management Team (EMT), bragged; saying his Economic Management Team is the best, and a ‘solid’ one.
He mocked the Former President Mahama’s administration; saying it is an incompetent administration; and that, they cannot even remember the names of their economic management team.
The third in order, of the country’s management (after the President and the Vice President), is the Finance of Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.
The finance minister functions by ensuring the government & country’s financial stability; allocate annual expenditure for the implementation of government’s infrastructure projects and to ensure the country’s food security.
The Finance Minister also works by providing policies and guidelines for the stimulation development of the country’s economic growth.
The fact is, all governments, in the history of Ghana, had this trio’, (the President, Vice President and the Finance Minister); and the day-to-day running of this country, lies mainly in the hands of this trio (a group made of three people). Â
Again, the success and failure of this country, and any other country, depends on the effectiveness of this trio and the county’s Economic Management Team (EMT).
When the Nana Addo-Bawumia-Ofori Atta administration, classed the John Mahama’s Economic Management team as incompetent, corrupt and the worst in the country’s history; even though the economy and living conditions were better by then; how will they class the their own current Economic Management team today?
Can we as citizens , also name these three (Nana Addo-Bawumia-Ofori Atta’s team), as the biggest Bragging Trio in the country’s history?
Is the Nana Addo-Bawumia-Ofori Atta’s EMT still solid; considering the current troubles with the economy, and the extreme hardships facing the country; or has the once solid Bawumia led Economic Management team evaporated into the thin air. or dissolved into liquid?
The fact is…considering the current poor state of the country, compared to the previous NDC government’s, the Former President John Mahama’s Economic Management Team (EMT), has defeated the Nana Addo-Bawunia-Ofori Atta’s team; and even though John Mahama ‘cannot remember his EMT’ (as claimed by Dr. Bawumia), the economy and and living conditions of Ghanaians were far better during his leadership.
Bring the two Economic Management teams face to face each other, and John Mahama EMT will still defeat Dr. Bawumia’s so called solid team.
