The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was trending after he shipped from the USA, some medical equipment which will be used in the newly constructed and some already existing hospitals. All Ghanaians focused on was praising the Honorable Member of Parliament. However, the Lead Convener of the Fix The Country Movement, Oliver Barker Vorwamor is set to do the unexpected. He is set to probe how Okudzeto Ablakwa was able to procure these items. Oliver Barker has disclosed that he will put into application, the Right to Information Act, and write to Okudzeto Ablakwa that he provides details of how he was able to import or ship these stuff.
“In order to test the law on whether the Right to Information Act applies to MPs, I will be sending a Right to Information request to the office of the Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for information on how he was able to procure a 40 feet container of medical supplies to serve his constituents, while his fellow MPs are sleeping.
Also, Oliver Barker was very optimistic that the response Okudzeto Ablakwa will provide will be used by other Members of Parliament so as to increase their effectiveness in their constituency.
“My hope is that the information obtained will also allow you to go to your local MP and tell them, if this is what an MP can do whiles in opposition, why must we pelt you with pure water in Suame before our roads will be constructed.”, he explained
Oliver Barker Vorwamor also explained the other motive behind this move. According to him, he is doing this to test the effectiveness of the Right To Information Act on Members of Parliament. So far, the act has been used to seek for accountability from the various ministries. Nothing of that nature has been done for Members of Parliament, especially those in opposition.
