There is ongoing ‘Great Battle’, between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Yilo/Manya Krobo Communities in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The battle, has since its beginning, been creating brand new stories almost everyday, and hitting the headlines in Ghana and around the world.
The misunderstanding was initially triggered by allegations, from the youth of the Yilo and Manya Krobo communities, that the the ECG has been cheating the Krobo Communities with over-billing of electricity consumption. It later became a ‘battle for-and-against pre-paid meter installations in the Krobo areas.
The misunderstanding which has existed between the two for more that 5 years, has led to many clashes and about three weeks of total power cuts in the area by the ECG.
Though the ECG; on Friday; 19 August 2022, restored power to the Yilo and Manya Krobo lands, the current information coming from the area again revealed that, “the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has been forced to disconnect power to Nuaso Old Town, in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, of the Eastern Region from the national grid”.
The story, which was reported by citinewsroom.com again revealed that, the disconnection came following “claims of rejection of prepaid meters by the residents, who allegedly threatened to pour hot oil on personnel of the ECG and the military, while others also threatened to inflict cutlass wounds on them, if they dared to fix the meters”.
The report added that, “The military officers who accompanied the ECG officials are reported to have retaliated by brutalizing the residents”.
Another mysterious story coming from the kroboland has also revealed that, in the midst of the never-ending battle between ECG and the Krobolands, a great wonder, has surfaced in the Krobo area.
The information states that, a tinny flame of fire, has appeared on a coco-nut tree in Golgoto; a tiny community in the Lower Manya Krobo area.
The tinny flame of fire on the coco-nut tree, is said to be burning, right in the middle of the tree (in-between the coco-nut leaves), but the leaves seams not to be consumed by the fire.
The first and the only time such a story was heard, was during the time of Prophet Moses in the Holy bible; where Moses encountered a burning bush, but the fire did not burn up the bush.
According to experts on the Moses’s story, the burning bush symbolized God’s intention to destroy ‘sin and dispense grace’ on His people (the Israelites), in the land of Egypt.
Some elderly men who witnessed the tinny flame of fire (on the coco-nut tree the Krobo area), has attributed it to that of Moses’s story; saying “God’s love is on the Krobo people; and that the intentions by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG); to intimidate the residents with over-billing and prepaid meters, will soon be destroyed by God Himself”.
Some Krobo residents in the area, also saw the burning coco-nut tree as a sigh of Krobo’s victory over the ECG.
However, some christian residents in the area also guessed; that the tinny flame of fire, on the coco-nut tree is a sign, that the tree has been possessed by an evil spirit.
