As part of his tour to different parts of the country, President Akufo-Addo visited Nadowli-Kaleo today. The area is noted to be the home of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. Bagbin remains one of the longest serving law makers until he was elevated to be Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
Today, Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the President commissioned the Nadowli-Kaleo Solar Plant. This is a 13 megawatt power plant expected to produce power to over 32,000 households. According to reports by 2030 the power plant will be producing about 1000 megawatts of power. This will be a tremendous boost to the people of the area.
President Akufo-Addo in his introductory speech introduced the ministers, MPs and high powered delegation that had thronged the event. Interestingly, Akufo-Addo also made mention of Bernard Mornah. According to Akufo-Addo he is happy that Mr. Mornah had come to grace the event. Akufo-Addo said when he first saw Bernard he thought the former PNC General Secretary was in Nadowli-Kaleo to demonstrate as he usually does in Accra.
This sent wild laughter among all those who were present. Bernard is known to be one of the biggest critics of the Akufo-Addo government. Many have also tagged him as a demonstration specialist because he is virtually found in any demonstration, especially those against the government. Bernard is a native of the area and started his political activism in that area.
In 2016 Bernard Mornah on the ticket of the People’s National Convention went head to head against Alban Bagbin for the seat of the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency. Alban went ahead to win the election with 48.92% while Bernard came third with 18.78% of votes.
With the commissioning of the power plant, many are tagging President Akufo-Addo as the champion when it comes to power. The NPP have always bragged that they ended dumsor and have stabilized the distribution of energy. The NPP will hope that these projects will ensure they amass more votes in the next elections.
