President Akufo-Addo has been visiting various parts of the country in the past few days. Currently he is in the Upper West Region where he has been commissioning some projects. While in that region, Akufo-Addo visited Wa, Lambussie, Nandom, Issa, Kaleo and Wechiau. Today saw the President in Kaleo to commission the 13 megawatt solar plant in Kaleo.
The solar power plant is expected to cater for about 32,000 households in the area. According to reports, by 2030 the power plant will be producing about 1000 megawatts of power. This will be a tremendous boost to the people of the area. However even before President Akufo-Addo could speak at the event, the chief addressed the president and his dignitaries. According to the chief he feels elated that the President will choose the area to host the solar plant.
He noted that Ghana has seen tremendous development under Akufo-Addo. Most importantly, as the voice of all the other overlords, Naa boldly stated that from what is going on Ghanaians were right to have maintained Akufo-Addo in the last election. These comments are a game changer in that the area is an NDC stronghold.
Alban Bagbin was MP for the area from the 1st to the 7th Parliaments. This makes Nadowli-Kaleo a bank for votes for the NDC. Even after Bagbin stepped down as MP, the NDC still went ahead to clinch the Parliamentary seat with Mahama winning the presidential election there by 77.30%.
With these figures, it is interesting that a chief in the area will commend Akufo-Addo and insist that Ghanaians were right to have maintained him as president in the 2020 elections. Is this to mean that the people will alter their voting pattern and vote for the NPP in the next elections? Can the ruling party trust that with the solar plant commissioning, the tide will change? Time will tell. President Akufo-Addo is expected to tour the Savannah region next after ending his visit to the Upper West Region.
