It is about time every political party watches its back. This is because not everyone in a party is actually a committed member of that party. Some are there to serve as moles to the opponent in exchange of personal benefits.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) really needs to take this advise more seriously. A school of thought has it that John Mahama would had won 2020 presidential election but for the activities of some moles in NDC. The likes of Koku Anyidoho, Rojo Mettle Nunoo, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak and others have been tagged as moles at one point or the other.
The pendulum is now on the former finance minister and presdential hopeful Dr. Kwabena Dufffour. The owner of the defunct Unibank granted interview with Joynews TV and made some comments that have sparked a lot of controversy.
As former finance minister, Dr. Duffour was asked about Ghana’s economic downturn which has been downgraded by all the world ratings. Dr. Duffour’s said that indeed the economy is bad. However he tried to absolve the government from blame. He said he doesn’t believe in blame games. Instead, he prefers the discussion centers on how we can get out of the mess.
When asked if the finance minister should resign or be fired. Dr. Duffour said no. He explained that Ken Ofori Atta is not the head of state hence cannot take blame for the economic downturn. He added that the minister has sacrificed a lot for Ghana and cannot be betrayed.
The question that followed was on Agyapa. The journalist asked of his opinion on the agreement. Strangely, Dr. Duffour revealed that the idea of Agyapa Royalty Agreement came from NDC in 2010 when he was the finance minister. He said Ghana cannot miss such a brilliant opportunity because Agyapa will bring in millions of dollars within a short time while we wait for IMF.
All his responses were defending the President and the NPP while attacking the NDC.
A US based Ghanaian journalist, Kelvin Tailor has cautioned NDC against Dr. Kwabena Duffour. According to the marverick journalist, Dr. Duffour has been bought by NPP. He said the government has threatened to confiscate all assets belonging to the former governor of the Bank of Ghana if he does not protect the NPP from criticisms. For this reason, Dr. Duffour will always criticise NDC and defend NPP.
