Even Russian boxers are winning bouts and you blame them for our woes? Nana Addo asked

The economy of the country is currently going through some difficult times, as nearly all the key economic indicators have taken a downward spiral. Year-on-year inflation is around 31%; an all-time highest in decades, the debt to Gross Domestic Products ratio has transcended the dreaded 80% threshold, and the depreciation of the Ghana Cedis against major trading currencies like the dollar has hit the roof. Consequently, prices of foodstuffs and other necessities are skyrocketing on nearly a daily basis. And these have put Ghanaians a difficult economic situation.

The ruling New Patriotic Party blames these worrying economic situations on the Coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war. According to the government, due to the war, prices of crude oil, and fertilizer among others have shot up considerably the world over, and these have had rippling effects on the prices of goods and services the world over.

But members of the opposition National Democratic Congress think otherwise. John Dramani Mahama for instance has charged the Nana Addo-led government to take responsibility for the bad economic situation the country finds itself in. According to the 2020 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, the Coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war have only exposed the reckless management of the economy. To him, other African countries who had sound economic indicators have been able to contain the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war.

The latest individual to point out to the ruling New Patriotic Party that the economic situation Ghana is currently in is not caused by the Russian-Ukraine war is Dzifa Gunu, an NDC activist. His assertion comes after Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usyk beats Anthony Joshua to retain the World Heavyweight Championship belts in a Sunday morning bout.

In a Facebook post, Dzifa Gunu writes,

“So even coming from a war-ravaged Ukraine, Usyk still wins and Akufo-Addo and Bawumia will always blame Russia and Ukraine war for our woes”
