The Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, has told Edudzi Kudzo the hard truth about the allegations of conflict of interest being leveled at the Finance Minister and Adu Boahen. Speaking on the Newsfile on Joy News, John Kumah explained that the issue of conflict of interest has happened over the past few years, and should the NDC come to the government, it will also be cited in their government.
John Kumah told Edudzi the hard truth should he be appointed as Attorney General in the next NDC government, Edudzi Tamakloe might as well employ or choose his firm as an advisor to the state and this is a clear example of conflict of interest. This assumption was made following the series of criticisms Edudzi Tamakloe directed at the Finance Minister during the show.
“The reality is that the selection of the special bond market was not done by the Ministry of Finance. It was done by the Bank of Ghana based on the industry trend. We all know that this is not the first time we have been here and it may not be the last time. This is because when you come to government as a lawyer you may be put as Attorney General and you might select your firm as an advisor to the state”, he explained. This statement from John Kumah got Edudzi Tamkloe to laugh instead of debunking or assuring the people of Ghana that no such thing will occur under him.
John Kumah further educated Edudzi Tamakloe that the Ministry of Finance is not the one who selects the bond market to sell or buy from but it is the singular role of the Bank of Ghana. This revelation or statement from John Kumah has made some Ghanaians conclude that both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party are the same since after coming to power, they will repeat what they were criticizing their opponents for.
