We Wrote Letters To Bawumia To Save Our Mosque From Demolition, He Didn’t Mind Us – Sofoline Muslims

Ghanaian Muslims in Kumasi Sofoline has eulogized the former president, His excellency John Dramani Mahama for coming to their aid when no one was there to help.

Speaking to the media today, Sheikh Ramadan of Sofoline Central mosque said that they were given three months ultimatum to pay Ghc 2.8 billion old Ghana cedis or vacate the mosque. They wrote letters to important people in this country, vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia for assistance, but the help never came.

They wrote even more letters to him but he did not reply any of them so they had to call Peace Dawa Foundation for assistance. Peace Dawa Foundation took the issue to social media and within three weeks, they have raised Ghc 1.7 billion, with remaining Ghc1.1 billion to be raised to pay for the land. Former president John Dramani Mahama heard of the situation and payed the rest.

“We wrote countless letters to our Muslim brothers in government, the vice President Mahamadu Bawumia but he never replied. We were left with only three months to lose our mosque so we had to find our own way” he said.

The Sofoline Central mosque was built for the Muslim community by Dr Kwame Nkrumah without official documents. The land was sold to a businessman later who asked to resell to the Muslims at Ghc280,000.
