I Know As A Politician, I Have A Very Short Lifespan – Dr Adutwum Gives Updates On Education

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has given updates on the various issues in education. On Friday, 19th August 2022, Dr. Yaw Adutwum called on all Ghanaians to join him in bringing a shift in education so that no child is left out.

“I know as a politician, I have a very short lifespan. But while I’m here, I want to serve my motherland and impact millions through education.This is why I call on all Ghanaians to partner with me so that together, we can shape the paradigm to ensure that no child is left behind no matter their circumstances.” Dr. Adutwum said in the video on his official Facebook page.

Updates On National Standardized Test

He said that Findings from the maiden National Standardised Test (NST) reveal that 62% of the pupils were Below Basic level while the other 38% were made up of the Basic, Proficient and Advanced.

According to the Minister, results from the maiden National Standardised Test (NST) show that Primary 4 pupils in Ahafo Region scored the highest grades in both English and Mathematics.

The results from the National Standardised Test(NST) indicate that primary school pupils are seriously challenged in Mathematics.

“The Ministry of Education will use data from the maiden National Standardised Test (NST) to provide interventions and improve learning outcomes and opportunities for all Ghanaian children.” He promised.

Updates On Infrastructures

Under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the new norm in Ghana is that, schools must be well resourced with libraries and science laboratories before they are operationalized.The good news is that, the library and science laboratories of the Aflao E-block has been completed and due for commissioning. Dr. Adutwum remarked.

In the midst of current economic challenges, the President is forging ahead and investing in educational infrastructure the construction of 7 Technical Colleges and 5 STEM universities aimed at increasing our Gross Tertiary Enrollment Ratio from the current 20% to 40% by 2030.

Update On GALOP

He said that GALOP supports Government’s efforts at providing equitable quality education through targeted interventions to the most disadvantaged schools and children across the country.
