There has been debates as to whether the planting and export of weed is logical and Healthy in Ghana. The debate had several Stakeholders interested in the development.
Mr. Gabby Otchere Darko advised that marijuana should be exported to earn the country enough income to bridge some financial gaps.
Black Rasta, a Journalist in Accra had also advised that government should legalize the plant to make it lucrative for trading. He was also summoned before Parliament years back for alleging that parliamentarians smoke weed.
Several People have been arrested and issued series of jail terms that have even eaten deep into our economy, the interior Minister, Mr. Ambrose Dery who doubles as MP for Nandom Constituency suggested cost of feeding a prisoner will be increased to Ghc5, let’s strike it, if ten weed smokers are jailed 5 years each, let’s multiply Ghc5 by the number of week days, with the exclusion of week ends we will have 261days in a year multiplies by the amount 5 which is 1,305 days, lets multiply 1,305 by 5 which is Ghc6,525, let’s multiply 6,525 by 10 which is Ghc65,259. So government will spend this amount to jail these group of people for five years causing financial loss to the state when they can export the plant.
Exporting the plant will make it expensive and as a result people will not be able to afford it in Ghana.
When it is exported, part of the money can be allocated for training mental health doctors who will eventually treat patients affected by overdose of weed when they abuse the plant.
At least if a region gets 1 mental health doctor that will be 16 for the whole country, cities like Accra and Kumasi can be Assigned 2 making it 18 whilst two can be standby in other Regions such as Northern Region and Western to increase the tally to 20. If Ghana Makes $50million from the leaf annually, 5 million can go into payment of Doctors and Infrastructure development. States such as Broomfield, Colorado are in need of the plant.
