Raymond Ablorh, a journalist and a former Manager at Airtel Ghana has asserted that anytime NPP are voted into power, we forget the meaning of everything and redifine it to suit thier campaign message.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, 20th August 2022, he wrote;
“I’m not surprised we now need to define Conflict of Interest and discuss it for a national consensus. Anytime the NPP comes to power, we forget the meaning of everything and start defining and redifining the very things they used for campaigns.”
According to Raymond, John Kufuor campaigned with Zero Tolerance for Corruption in 2000. But, in 2001, the entire nation had to define corruption.
That’s when Kufuor told us corruption is everywhere, in Europe, in Asia etc. and that corruption began in the Garden of Eden as if he didn’t know what they meant when they said John Rawlings’ administration was corrupt and promised Zero Tolerance for Corruption.
“Once they’re in power, every issue becomes nebulous, and the supposed intellectuals mostly compromised go along with their senseless narrative.” Raymond remarked.
Didn’t we know Corruption and Conflict of interest before 1992 or 2000? If we didn’t, what did we mean by corruption and conflict of interest then? If we didn’t understand corruption, how did we understand Zero Tolerance for Corruption to vote for it? He added.
Background
His comments is based on the purpoted conflict of interest tagged to the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta and his databank for acting as advisor to government on loans. This was revealed by KKD, that Ken’s bank shouldn’t be the ones doing that job.
What Is Conflict of Interest
In the public sector context, a ‘conflict of interest’ is a situation where a conflict arises between public duty and private interest.
The issue is NEVER whether or not Databank was in that business in the past, or they are most experienced firm in Bond Management.
The real issue here is, whether by being a beneficial owner of Databank, the private interest of the Finance Minister is likely to effect any decision he makes while in that public office, especially at a time DataBank has become the darling boy contractor under that Ministry and its agencies.
