This was made known in a press release issued after the meeting on August 19, 2022 .

The statement noted that a fact-finding committee has been established to determine cause(s) of the disturbances.

“Following the disturbances arising out of the University Hall Week Celebrations on Thursday 18th August, 2022, the Executive Committee of the University at an emergency meeting held on 19th August, 2022, constituted a fact-finding committee to establish the causes of the disturbances.”

The statement also added, “massing up of students leading up to ‘morale’ activities and processions is suspended indefinitely.”

About the incident

The disturbance on Thursday evening resulted in three vehicles being damaged.

It is believed attempts by students of Unity Hall to restrain colleagues from University Hall from using their frontage in a procession caused the incident.

This reportedly resulted in the two factions pelting stones at each other.
