In an interview on Okay FM this morning, the law maker revealed that it really saddens his heart when he hears John Mahama, Ghana’s former president speaking against Free Senior High School education. He added that John Mahama doesn’t have any right to criticise Free SHS because the Akufo Addo led administration has done a better job.

He made it clear to him to stop bragging that the NDC started this policy. He added that John Mahama and the NDC didn’t have any plan to make senior high schools free in the country. He revealed that John Mahama’s progressive Free SHS would have still been progressive till now if they were in power.

He gave out several records to prove that the Free SHS has even improved academic performances of the students since 2017. According to him, the results of each WASSCE exams prove that the badges of free SHS did better than those who completed during NDC’s tenure of office.

Speaking about free senior high school education in Ghana, one can say that it a very good initiative. This is because a lot of students using this policy to get free tuition, and this has increased the literacy rate in the country.

There are however some problems with the initiative. The program started well through to the first three years. However, all senior high schools in the country are experiencing shortages of food. Some schools feed their students same food for morning throughout the whole week. This has been the challenge.

Parents were even urged by some headmasters to support the school with some food or funds to enable them feed their wards. The government of Ghana has promised to solve this problem as soon as possible.

In conclusion, he is urging the NDC to support this initiative because it has come to stay. There may be challenges but it takes all hands to fix it and not destroy it.
