Ghana’s economy has been downgraded by many leading financial rating agencies. Two of these are Fitch and Standard and Poor. According to these rating agencies the economy has reached a terrible level and at a junk state. This is certainly going to put investors away and prevent lending agencies from helping the country.
Government on her part has sought help from the International Monetary Fund to assist the country. However, before this help comes the country needs to manage for now. Prices of goods are rising as the cedi keeps depreciating against other foreign currencies. On Good Moring Ghana, Dr Kabiru-Mahama was of the view that the economy is indeed suffering but negative comments will hamper it all.
Talking to Randy Abbey, the host, the IT guru in the office of the Vice President caused people especially those in opposition to be careful of their comments. He explained that these comments hurt the nation and prevent investors from investing in the economy. He noted that those investors and funding agencies listen to the voices of high personnel in the country.
He mentioned two of these personalities as Randy Abbey himself and then John Mahama. He cautioned Randy Abbey to be positive about comments he makes about the state of the economy because he sits on TV and has a high following. Dr Tiah Kabiru Mahama also mentioned that John Mahama’s words of opposition is also hurting investor confidence. He noted that for example if there is a new budget and the former president keeps opposing it investors will be reluctant to invest.
Dr. Kabiru called on Ghanaians to be positive and expect changes soon. The critical question however is then, should governments be left to manage without criticisms? This is the case where the Akufo-Addo government have blamed everyone apart from themselves as to why the economy is in this deplorable state.
