Don’t Ever Blame The NPP, Blame Hopeson Adorye – Hon. Frank Fuseini Adongo Reveals

Hon. Frank Fuseini Adongo, a former Deputy Minister for the Upper East Region, has weighed in on the ongoing feud between Hopeson Yaovi Adorye and members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly northerners, over his ethnocentric remark.

Dr. Adongo stated that the NPP as a political party has not published any statement implying that it has no space for northerners in the party’s flagbearership post.

According to the previous Member of Parliament (MP) for the Zebilla Constituency, Mr. Adorye’s unfavorable comment is entirely his fault and should not be blamed on the NPP.

He bemoaned that the NPP is already fighting to overcome the negative perception established by the opposition NDC that it is an Akan party.

“I want my people [northerners] to understand that what Hopeson stated was an individual mistake, not an NPP mistake.” “What Hopeson said cannot represent the views of the NPP’s nearly 5 million members, which is why he has accepted responsibility for his actions by apologizing,” he said.

In an interview with some journalists in Accra, Hon. Adongo urged all sons and daughters of the five northern regions to forgive Mr. Adorye for his “reckless comment,” which he reiterated does not represent the NPP’s position as a political party.

Dr. Adongo emphasized that the main opposition party, the NDC, will use Hopeson Adorye’s remark to sow discord between the NPP and the people of the north.

The former Upper East Deputy Regional Minister claimed that the NPP, particularly the present President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubt that he had the people of northern Ghana at heart and that “he has been in excellent connection with the northerners.”

“As a peace advocate, I believe the issue should be given the attention it deserves in order to avoid the negative effects.”

Beyond Ghana’s northern areas, many more northerners have pledged their royalties and resources to the party’s progress.

“As a result, Northerners deserve and should be treated with respect.” We deserve gold for our many years of service to the NPP.”

Dr. Adongo praised the NPP National Executives for calling Mr. Hopeson Adorye and considering punishment. He also stated that the party must distance itself from the comment made by Hopeson Adorye in order to maintain the NPP’s strong relationship with the people of the north.

According to Mr. Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, in the NPP tradition, people from the north are only fit for running mate roles, hence party faithfuls must reject Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s aspiration to become the party’s flagbearer.

Mr. Adorye dropped the bombshell during a “Adoru Wosu” health walk organized by supporters of Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, the NPP’s aspiring presidential candidate in Kumasi.

Mr. Adorye’s remark was highly denounced by the majority of Ghanaians, particularly those from the north. Even though Mr. Hopeson Adorye issued an apology to the people of the north, it appears that his apologies was not well received.
