Gabby Otchere Darko in 2015 stormed the studios of JoyNews to make the Mahama government more unpopular. Little did he know that his own words on that fateful day will haunt himself and the party he was trying to project, the current ruling New Patriotic Party. Three fundamental statements that he made were, “Where has all the money gone?”, “There is no investment in capital projects” and, “IMF will not increase salary as inflation increases”.
“You ask yourself, where has all the money gone? What is happening is that we are spending more and more money to pay our debt rather than investing in capital expenditure or capital projects. Projects that will create jobs. Looking at it, the IMF could not create jobs, the IMF will not make sure that the salary will match up with inflation. IMF will make sure that hopefully, the reckless spending will go down and that is the positive aspect of this.”
Gabby Otchere Darko has been tasked to answer the question about the whereabouts of all the revenues generated by the government within these six years since no projects acclaimed by this government can account for it. Also, this government is historically the first to get many revenues but yet has nothing to show off.
Gabby Otchere Darko was also blasting the Mahama administration for using the meager revenues accumulated to pay off the then-growing debts. Gabby was of the view that such a revenue stream should have been used for the investment in capital projects. What do we see now? The total revenue generated is just used for the payment of the interests on the debts that have been accumulated over these few years. Also, the government has not invested in any meaningful capital projects that can create jobs, with the exception of the National Cathedral which is a less or last priority to the nation of Ghana.
Lastly, Gabby was blasting Mahama for going to the IMF knowing fully well of the negative conditionalities that will affect Ghanaians in the long run. Today, this same NPP government has gone to the IMF.
