The major worry of colleagues and families of successful politicians is that these politicians will turn their back on their families as they do on the people who vote them into power. Also, people who win power into political offices are also placed into a dilemma because they were voted to work for the country and not for their families. Technically, there was nothing wrong with Nana Addo deciding to develop Kyebi, his hometown. However, by principle, Nana Addo erred since it is not fair to develop some parts of the country or use the state’s resources to develop one part of the country and desert the others.
The Speaker of Parliament, Right Honorable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, knowing fully well of this situation, has sent a message to his successful compatriots in the Upper West region. And whiles sending that message, he offered a bold prayer that all politicians must make before beginning their tenure; that they will not forget or turn their back on the people who made them who they are.
“We must never forget our core mission as natives from the Upper West, nor turn our back on the long-suffering men and women who sacrificed, nurtured, and educated each one of us from the Region. So help me God.”, Alban wrote on his Facebook wall.
Alban Bagbin sent this message to the people after he played host to his compatriots from the Upper West who are residents in Accra and Tema.
This initiative that Alban Bagbin has rolled out must be adopted by all politicians. Since they have the platform now, they must try to organize some meetings with successful people in their regions so that they can mobilize funds to develop their home regions. This will help reduce the pressure on the government among others.
Also, this will boost their support base in these places.
