Athletic Bilbao star Inaki Williams explained his decision to switch to Ghana in an interview with the Spanish press.
Williams, who was born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, committed his international future to Ghana in June and insists it was a well-thought-out decision.
He is no longer available for Spain, having only played once for the 2010 World Cup champions.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for many months and I’ve had the help of my family,” Williams explained.
“The president of the Ghanaian federation is the one who pushed hardest for me to be there.
“Trains only run once and I got on this one, which has more good than bad.
“The decision has been mature and consensual with my family.”
The 28-year-old is expected to be included in Ghana’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
