Ghana Card design was bought from a French – Bright Simons reveals

The Ghana Card is a national identity card that is issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA) to Ghanaian citizens- both resident and non-resident, and legally and permanently resident foreign nationals. The Ghana Card is proof of identity, citizenship, and residence of the holder. The current version of the Ghana Card is in ID1 format and biometric.

In other, for the country to facilitate the process of having a database that is variable for the nation, the current government is pushing for all individuals to have access to it. There are certain services that Ghanaians are authorized to link their Ghana Cards with, so at a click of a button, information about an individual can easily be accessed. This if done, among other benefits, will help curb cyber fraud, and also help provide reliable data for government use.

The benefits of the Ghana Card notwithstanding, scores of experts have called on the government to hasten slowly, as the gains of the Ghana Card will dwindle if it is not implemented probably.

One of such individuals is Bright Simons of Imani Ghana fame. The Vice-president of the political think-tank has critiqued the government on why for instance, it insists that Ghanaians should link their Ghana Cards with their phone numbers or risk losing after given deadlines. The recent announcement by the Electoral Commission to use solely the Ghana Cards for the limited registration program when the National Identification Authority has come out to say it cannot provide several cards to some Ghanaians due to its challenges is also of great concern to Mr. Bright Simons.

The latest of his criticism of the Ghana Card is a revelation that the current design of the cards is owned by Ghana. In a tweet, Mr. Bright Simons declares that the design was owned by a French Company and the country had to pay for it.
