This week has seen communicators of the opposition NDC visiting media houses and complaining about the Electoral Commission’s plans to rig the 2024 elections by making the Ghana card the sole form of identity for registering for the voters’ ID. According to Asiedu Nketia and Sammy Gyamfi, this measure if passed will end up disenfranchising many Ghanaians who turn 18 and eligible to vote.
Asiedu Nketia this week has toured a number of media houses expressing this grievance. On Tuesday, the NDC General Secretary joined Evans Mensah on PM Express. According to the political maverick, the NDC want to come back to the Inter Party Advisory Council but the EC is proving problematic. Asiedu Nketia added that they have even had meetings with the Peace Council who noted that the NDC have a point and deserve transparency from the EC.
When asked if the Peace Council met with the EC, General Mosquito stated that the Jean Mensa led EC have refused to meet with the EC. He dared Joy News to interview the Chairman of the Peace Council for confirmation. Joy News followed it up with an interview with the Council’s Chairman, Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi. Interestingly, the chairman mentioned that the meeting has stalled indeed but insisted that it is not because the EC refused but rather because Jean Mensah wasn’t available at the moment.
He insisted that the meeting will come off when the EC boss shows up. One question that then comes up is whether the EC boss isn’t having deputies to assist her when she isn’t around. Is it safe to say that there will be no meeting as long as Jean Mensa isn’t around?
