The Executive Director of EduWatch, Mr. Kofi Asare has revealed that the funds for running educational offices are in arrears just like the Capitation Grant is also in arrears.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 11 August 2022 wrote;
“Regional Education Directorates (RED) are supposed to coordinate and monitor education delivery in the districts.Â
This year, funds for running their offices, cash for fuel, payment of utilities, stationery etc have not been disbursed; and we are in August. “
According to Kofi Asare, funds for running District Education Offices (DEOs) are also in arrears, just like the Capitation Grant.
“So how are the REDs and DEOs coordinating, monitoring and supervising education delivery in the districts and schools? How can we hold these directorates accountable to their KPIs if they are not getting the resources they require to work; and of what relevance are these KPIs?”  He quizzed.
“To make matters worse, I even hear some have of these offices have quite recently been put on pre-paid ECG meters.” He said.
Have we accepted as standard practice for directors to keep running our REDs and DEOs from their own pocket ‘loans’ like basic school head teachers do in basic schools?Â
“Dear Ministry of Finance, Ghana Ghana Education Service Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Ministry of Education GH, Citizens are worried you are not funding our institutions well. Please do something!” He called on them.
