In the next few months the ruling New Patriotic party will elect a flagbearer to lead the party in the 2024 elections. Already the party has surmounted the task of electing party executives. The next step is to elect a flagbearer. After the elections comes the big one as the party seeks to break the 8. This will be no mean task as party in Ghana’s 4th Republic has been able to do this.
The leading contenders for the NPP race are Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Trades Minister, Alan Kyerematen. There is also the Kennedy Agyapong factory but at the end of the day Alan and Bawumia will fight for the slot. Many say there is already brewing tension within the Bawumia and Alan camps. All eyes have been on the two whenever the two personalities meet.
Vice President Bawumia on his Facebook post has given updates one of the ways to strengthen Ghana’s economy. Bawumia, head of the Economic Management Team alongside officials of the Bank of Ghana, Ministry of Lands and Natural resources, Minerals Commission met with the Ghana Chamber of Mines to draw a roadmap for the implementation of Bank of Ghana’s gold purchase programme. According to Bawumia this will preserve the foreign reserves of the country and make it resolute against external shocks.
Ghana seeks to back their reserves with gold to ensure that the economy picks up to where it used to be before the pre-Covid-19 period. This is one of the programmes that has seen Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen team up to work on a common good. Maybe there is really no feud between the two and it is Ghanaians who are trying to start a fight between them. It is also possible that they have hidden their differences for the mean time for the greater good.
