The Bono East Regional Health Directorate has expressed worry at the low doctor-to-patient ratio in the region, indicating that it has a dire consequences on the health of the people in the Bono East region.
According to the directorate, the current 1:20,000 patient-doctor ratio is low as compared to the WHO’s standard of 1:7,500. This means a lot of people may not get doctors to attend to them when they are ill.
Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, the Regional Health Director who spoke on Link Agoo AM show with Omanpayin Kwame Atoapim on Monday revealed that, the Kwame Danso Hospital had for a very long had only one medical doctor but currently has three doctors stationed there. Additionally Atebubu Hospital has also seen 3 doctors stationed there to running the facility.
He said though there are challenges confronting the service in the region, efforts were being made to attract more health personell into the region.
