A video of a young boy doing a dangerous job at a corn mill shop has recently surfaced online, and many social media users couldn’t keep mute over it after coming across this video. If you look at the body structure of this kid, he might probably be between the ages of 2 and 6 years.
As many Ghanaians are aware, the minimum legal age for entering the labour market is 16 years. Sections 58 to 61 of the labour Act prohibit the employment of young persons in hazardous work, which is defined as work likely to expose the person to physical or moral hazards. However, the parents of this kid didn’t consider or might know that they can be arrested for engaging their kid in this kind of job.
If you watch the video carefully, you can see that this kid is putting his hand inside the corn mill machine and driving corn into the grinding area of the machine. At a point in time, you can see that this boy is not paying attention to what he is doing. He seems not to understand what he is doing, he is just being directed by someone to do the work.
Some Ghanaians after coming across this video called for the immediate arrest of this kid’s parents. According to them, this boy is far below the working age and what the parents are doing to him is child abuse. Others said that this is really sad and can only happen in Ghana.
