The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has entreated Ghanaians to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and support the efforts of the government in reviving Ghanaâs economy.
It also reminded Ghanaians to emulate âthe selfless patriotism of members of the Big Six, who suffered imprisonment, persecution, and harassment in their quest for a free independent country.â
âIf we can boldly call ourselves Ghanaians; if we can vote and choose for ourselves the leaders we want, then we should know that others sacrificed for the freedom we enjoy today. The onus, therefore, lies on us, to make sacrifices in making our country a better place for future generations and ourselves,â the NPPâs statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong said.
The Foundersâ Day is celebrated on August 4 each year since it was instituted in the first term of office of President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2018.
It replaced the 21st of September which was celebrated to mark Dr. Kwame Nkrumahâs involvement in the independence struggle of Ghana.
President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addoâs administration, in 2018, laid before Parliament a Public Holidays Amendment Bill by the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery.
The bill was subsequently passed, despite the Minorityâs opposition.
