Nkrumah Name Came Last:NPP Released Statement On Founders Day;They Want To Be Dismissive Of History?

The government of the New Patriotic Party established Founders’ day to honor all of those who contributed in one way or another to Ghana’s independence. As indicated, the 4th of August was chosen as Founders’ day and not Founder’s day. Per their logic, Kwame Nkrumah is not the Founder of Ghana because he was brought into the picture in the twilight of the struggle.

However, it seems whenever the NPP finds themselves in power, their major preoccupation is to change names, titles, and systems. When Osagyefo was overthrown, they immediately changed the name of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to National Liberation Circle. They changed the name of the Black Star Square to Independence Square and the CPP headquarters became the Ministry of Information.

The motto of the UGCC was “Self government within the shortest possible time” and the CPP was “Self government now”. When you juxtapose the two aforementioned mottos, you’d realize that there was no congruence of purpose /unity of purpose. In other words, when Nkrumah was pushing for independence, the UGCC was not in support of it.

They are back again in power and the changing game is on already. Apart from giving Ghana one more public holiday, they have also changed the date for the celebration of Founder’s Day. To the world and the mass of the people, September 21, the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah remains Ghana’s FOUNDER’S DAY.

The statement by the NPP released today shows Nkrumah’s name last on the list of the founders. Are they in any way trying to be dismissive of history?
