Chelsea have reportedly moved a step closer to signing Brighton & Hove Albion defender Marc Cucurella. Throughout the summer transfer window, it has been consistently claimed that Manchester City were the favourites to secure a deal for the Spaniard.
However, Brighton allegedly broke off negotiations with the Premier League champions over the weekend after City failed to show a willingness to meet their £50m valuation. This week, Marc Cucurella’s name has become a standard fixture around transfer market circles as Chelsea began proceedings to sign the Spanish defender.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed on personal terms with Marc Cucurella after accelerating their approach for the defender this week. The Brighton & Hove Albion defender, also a target for Manchester City. will accept the contract proposed by the Blues once the two clubs reach a consensus on the final transfer fees.
Romano has now reported that Chelsea have agreed on personal terms with Cucurella, although the 23-year-old defender has yet to sign the proposed contract offer. He will do so when there is an agreement between the Blues and Brighton over the final transfer fee.
Reaching an agreement with the Chelsea footballer was quick. Cucurella wants to take advantage of his first great year in the Premier League to sign for a Champions League club. All of that could help Barcelona, indirectly. If Cucurella were to move to Chelsea, the Blues could let Marcos Alonso leave. Alonso is badly wanted by Barcelona.
