Over the weekend, the ruling New Patriotic Party celebrated their 30th anniversary. It was a colorful event as the party climaxed their celebrations with a thanksgiving service in Accra. Interestingly, the entire party was hit with an interesting sermon that left many tongues wagging. While some shouted as the sermon went on, many others nodded their heads in silence or watched in disbelief.
The main speaker called on the leaders of the party to unite because the nation depends on them. He charged the leaders to stop backbiting and come together to decide the future of the party because there will be no men if there is no united mind. Looking straight in the eyes of the leaders he tasked them to unite if they want to break their 8-year term.
Johnnie Hughes On Johnnies Bite has added his voice to the calls of unity. Johnnie explained that there is so much disunity in the party and this was causing the party to decline. He cited a number of places that the party could have won easily and yet they either saw defeat or massive votes for the opposition.
“They wore white to church and yet have cobwebs in their cupboards. The man of God spoke truth to power. Look at the faces of the NPP leaders the President. I hope that people don’t go and victimize him. And people don’t go attacking him or go planting security people in his church to monitor what else he will be saying,” Johnnie said.
Many have criticized the ruling party for censoring people’s right to freely express themselves. Certain journalists have tagged it the culture of silence and have questioned President Akufo-Addo’s determination to give press freedom.
The last of such ‘victimized’ persons was Martin Kpebu who had to apologize and retract some comments he made about the president. Will this man of God made to eat back his words for hitting hard at the NPP and the President? Will spies be planted around him as Johnnie said? Interesting times ahead.
