Agya Koo’s Return To Kumawood Has Brought Ineffable Joy To The Industry – PK Sarpong

Popular writer for the NPP, P.K Sarpong has asserted that the return of Agya Koo to the movie industry in general and Kumawood in particular, has brought ineffable joy to a section of the people in the industry. He sees it as a welcoming event.

“It is not in dispute the fact that Kumawood has lost steam. In fact, the vibrancy and energy that used to be prominent back in the heyday of the Kumasi movie industry can no longer be seen today.” P.K Sarpong remarked.

To put it mildly, Kumawood is half dead. Several industry players have attributed this downward trend to many and varied factors. He added.

According to P.K Sarpong, some people have attributed it to the long absence of Agya Koo from the scene and others have also blamed producers for the difficulties in the sector.

Another interesting reason some have given is the dominance of Kwadwo Nkansah Lil’win who they say, rather strangely, to have used juju to dwarf other top guns into the background.

He argued that the above reasons are not convincing enough. In my considered opinion, Kumawood has been in the doldrums due to lack of innovation on the part of the industry players.

“These people have failed to take advantage of the new trends in the movie industries elsewhere. They still want to practice the old, archaic strategies of the industry.

Until they apply the innovative ideas being utilized in many countries now, the Ghanaian film industry, especially, the Kumawood sect, would continue to have its fortunes dwindled.” He concluded.
