The national democratic Congress legislature for North Tongu, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa, has questioned the agenda behind the strict deadline on 31st July, 2022, for the deactivation of sim cards that are not yet connected with the Ghana card.
Mr Ablakwa express worry over the availability of the national identification authority cards in the Greater Accra region whiles other regions are not having the cards printed for the citizenry and wonder the agenda behind it.
He said it “Interesting how Ghana Cards are available in Accra and yet NIA management cannot ensure all districts in Ghana are served. What’s the agenda? he quizzed.
According to Mr Ablakwa, over the past four months, the national identification authority haven’t been able to issue about 1445 cards to his constituents who have registered for the cards. He questioned whether Ghana is all about greater Accra?
Mr Ablakwa who made this known in a post on Facebook said “For a good 4 months — since the 29th of March, the NIA Office in North Tongu has been unable to print Ghana Cards for a massive 1,445 beloved constituents of mine who registered for the cards due to what officials are describing as logistical challenges from HQ.”
His Lori is how this 1445 people are going to be able to connect the Ghana card with their SIM cards before the deadline given by the ministry of communication and digitisation. Consequently assured his constituents that they are going to fight together and make sure that whoever SIM is activated is reconnected.
Mr Ablakwa stated that “How were these 1,445 victims of institutional ineptitude expected to meet the draconian July 31 SIM registration deadline, and why should their phones be disconnected? He finally assured his Constituents that “Be rest assured, you are not alone in this — our phones will be disconnected together, and we shall fight together to have them restored.”
Interestingly it is only the national identification authority and the ministry of communication and digitisation led by madam Ursula Owusu that can provide the necessary answer to honorable Ablakwa on his question. It is hopeful that the two stakeholders involved that is the national identification authority and the ministry of communication and led by Ursula Owusu will show a way forward that will not affect the innocent citizens who want to do the sim linkage but are constraint by the Ghana card.
