Liverpool edge out Manchester City for Community Shield trophy

Liverpool FC defeated Manchester City 3- 1 to clinch the Community Shield trophy at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool held a 1-0 lead over Manchester City at the break in their Community Shield clash.

Mohamed Salah set up Trent Alexander-Arnold, who scored the opening goal for the Reds in the 21st minute with a skillful finish.

With City struggling to get into the game outside of two half-chances for Erling Haaland, it was no more than the Reds deserved for their performance.

In the first half, Haaland had trouble adjusting to the pace of the game and, while having two chances, failed to take advantage of them.

After the interval, City, who won the Premier League last season, came out hoping to outplay the Reds and establish their supremacy in English football.

Alvarez scores a close-range goal for City following a VAR review. De Bruyne’s cross is caught by Foden, who then directs a shot in the direction of the goal. Adrian made a stop, but was unable to catch the rebound because Foden reacted sooner. Before Alvarez pounced and swept an effort into the back of the net to give Manchester City the equalizer, he batted it away from the Liverpool goalkeeper.

Darwin Nunez secured the win for the Reds after Mohammed Salah converted a penalty.
