Larry Sumaila opens up on expulsion from Hearts of Oak. Don Bortey makes allegations on the issue

Larry Sumaila, one of the “sacked” players by Hearts of Oak in an interview with Wontumi Sports on phone, discussed the event in depth.

He started by indicating that he only knew about his fate when he checked the updated squad online; his name wasn’t on the list. He addd no one from Hearts of Oak called him to inform him.

Sumaila also stated that, his contract expired 1st May. He informed the coach and authorities to extend his contract to help the team as the team was struggling with injuries and sickness at that period. He wanted a contract extension until the end of the season and authorities told him they would look into that as it is not a difficult task at all.

He further stated that, he heard nothing from the team and so he called the coach to find out what was happening. Coach Boadu then asked him to call the secretariat to inquire for himself. He called and there was no answer and that was how it ended.

Larry Sumaila then registered his displeasure at how Hearts of Oak managed the situation. He clearly said he is disturbed by the “Sacking” tag Hearts attached to him. He wasn’t sacked but that his contract expired.

Former player of Hearts, Benard Don Bortey called in to the show and added his voice to Larry Sumaila’s issue.

“Hearts have a big problem, and the problem have been there for a long time.”

“Hearts signed Larry because he is good player and so if you want to let him go the best way was to call him to the club’s office and discuss it with him.”

“I believe maybe the team owes the player”, Don Bortey said.

Bortey ended by giving Sumaila some advice.

“Stay calm, keep training and praying and wherever you find yourself, you will be able to play well. You are still a young player!”
