But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” Luke 10:40 (NASB)
One day Martha was busy preparing a meal for the Lord but Mary was seated at the feet of Jesus listening to Him. Martha came and complained to Jesus that he cared less about her serving alone without Mary’s help but Jesus said that Mary had made the best decision to be with Him.
Martha missed one very important priority. She was distracted. Distracted is translated as perispao in the imperfect tense of Greek which means “to be constantly overburdened by various distractions as to be worried and anxious. She never stopped to listen to Jesus.
The Lord is calling for your attention now but you are too busy with many things. Only one thing is needful and that is choosing to be present with the Lord always.
