Chelsea has reached an agreement with Sevilla for the signing of highly rated defender Jules Kounde but the London club has not been able to complete the transfer since they face competition from Barcelona. Jules Kounde has been in talks with both Chelsea and Barca for the past two weeks. According to reports, Jules Kounde prefers to join Barcelona than Chelsea but the Spanish giants have not submitted any bid to Sevilla for the French international.
Sevilla is ready to let the boy leave this summer if any of the two clubs meet their demands for his transfer. Sevilla initially left Kounde out of their pre-season tour in Portugal for the player to complete negotiations with Chelsea but the 23-year-old defender later join the rest of the team in pre-season. According to Gerard Romero, it was Kounde himself who wanted to go to Portugal because he is waiting for Barcelona.
Chelsea has been waiting for Sevilla’s green light for Jules since Thursday but there have not been any positive signs.
Sources from Seville suggest that the Spanish club prefer selling Kounde to Barca because of the relationship between the two clubs. Barca and Sevilla have done great transfer deals in recent years and they would want to continue with the relationship.
Whiles Sevilla sources admit that negotiations are only between Chelsea, Barca is preparing an official bid to hijack the deal as Gerard Romero reports.
